Change at Walrus Headquarters.

I’d like to take the time to thank everyone that has supported the company and bought a shirt.  I’ve completely sold out of my first batch and am about done with the second one.  As the demands grow, I’m going to be stepping away from doing all the design and print work by myself.  As a result, the designs are going to get more intricate and colour intensive.

My goal was always to have Walrus be an art project first, clothing project second.  As a result, I’m going to change direction from the current logo based theme to the intended art theme.  I’m also going to start working with artist Claire Harland on a new set of designs.  Claire is a student at the University of Victoria and has some sick, sick, sick designs.  I am super excited to have her on board and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.  In the meantime, only the Buy a Vowel tee will stay in production.  These will be printed on a per order basis.  You can head over to the Contact section to see how to get your orders in.

My hope is to move away from per order to carrying a set stock of various sizes at all times.  There are big things in the works, and your support and patience is greatly appreciated.  In the meantime, buy a vowel.

Cheers,

Sam

Jesse Taylor Makes Good Photos

For those of you that were at the Gnarside skate comp on Sunday, you know how amazingly SICK it was.  For those of you that missed out, it’ll be back next year, we hope.  But wait! You should still check out how rad it got.  Mr. Jesse Taylor was in attendance and snapped some super dope pictures.  Check out all the shots on Jesse’s blog.

On a related note, Antosh Cimoszko killed it in the intermediate category, taking home 1st place and a new clothing sponsor.  He’s 13, so things can only get bigger and better from here. Congrats, man!

On an unrelated note, I wanna throw out HUGE props to team rider Shayan Aghourlikhani for repping super hard.  He’s also only 13, but you can expect to see big things from him in the near future.  I also wanna thank the team in general for repping hard.  A bunch of us were at the comp and got the word out there.  Good times all around.

Gnar side of the Tracks Skate Comp

Hey kids,

Don’t forget, the Gnar side of the Tracks skate comp is going to be going off this Sunday, May 3 at Railside Youth Park in Port Coquitlam starting at 12 pm.  I will be one of the judges and will have a few shirts to give away, so bring your A game…or don’t. As long as you’re having fun, everyone will be stoked.  Check out the News page for more info.  In the meantime, pray that it doesn’t rain.  If it does end up raining, the comp will be rescheduled to Sunday, May 10th…but it won’t rain, right?  Below is a map of where it is.  The label marked A is the spot you’re looking for.

Cheers!

FourtyFour Media and Walrus

Joe Mickelson and Jeremy Cox from FourtyFour Media have offered their amazing videography skills to the team at Walrus.  I’m super stoked to have them making some team edits as well as partnering with Walrus in the long term as well.  James and Max are heading off to Whistler this weekend to shoot a Walrus edit, which will make it’s way onto the site as soon as possible.  In the meantime, check some of the FourtyFour Media edits on Vimeo.

Here’s a sample of there work, called The Introduction, featuring Jame and Max.

Order Update

Orders are picking up steam and I’d like to thank everyone that is going to be repping a Walrus tee in the near future.  However, American Apparel is being amazingly unworkable and won’t allow me to buy shirts unless I register a business number.  Since I don’t have the capital to pay the government a large portion of my profits, I’m going to be printing the shirts on custom sized and sewn, 100% ultra cotton tees.  These are a little heavier than the jersey knits from AA, but they last longer and don’t get those ball spots on them.  This means more work on my part, but the price for the tees will remain $20.

Apologies for those of you looking to stick to your hipster look.

Peace,

Sam

Apologies

It has been brought to my attention that in the hustle and excitment of getting the project up and running, I neglected to give props to the photographers that took the shots of the Team riders in action.  My sincerest apologies to all the photogs.  I’m currently working on fixing the situation in the Team page.  Thank you for your patience.

Sincerely,

Sam Masih

Orders, Orders, Orders!

Walrus Design is now taking orders for the current two designs.  You can find them in the Products page.  The prints are on 100% cotton jersey knits from American Apparel.  So, how do you get your orders in? You need to email the following to wlrsdsgn@gmail.com

Size: Guys or girls tee in S/M/L/XL-tall.

Colour: White, Purple or Light Blue.

Design: Buy a Vowel or Teething.

It’s that simple!  The shirts are only $20 if you place your order in before May 15th.  That’s a deal if I’ve ever seen one! Go get ‘em!

Who is the Walrus?

Walrus is a project that I have been working on for 3 years.  It started off as a crew, just a bunch of friends hanging out together and talking.  From there it went into art, into design, taking on character as a long term project with a medium. Everything I knew, and everything I’ve learned has gone into the creation of Walrus Design.  What started as Goons Outerwear, turned to Think, and finally settled into Walrus. I’ve been passionate about getting this off the ground for 3 years.  With the funds at hand and the support of friends, it is my hope that, if you can’t make it to the Walrus, I can bring the Walrus to you, regardless of geographical location.

Best Wishes,

Sam Masih
